GPT-5.5 retires from Codex with ChatGPT sign-in
GPT-5.5 has retired from Codex for users signed in with ChatGPT. OpenAI directs users to an available replacement and says API-key sessions are unaffected.

Effective October 14, 2026 at noon PDT (19:00 UTC), explicitly documented in the October 14 changelog and current Models guidance. Material follow-through on September 14's planned retirement. This entry confirms Codex only, not completion in regular Chat or ChatGPT Work. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users should choose GPT-6.1 Sol when available; Free and Go users should choose GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app when available. Update saved model choices and automations. OpenAI API and API-key-authenticated Codex sessions are unaffected.
